Green eyes, where the sparks lie
Oh oh oh, oh oh oh
Oh oh oh, oh oh oh
LuminousClan's thickly forested territory was bathed in sunlight that fell through the branches tangled above and lit the ground with bright, golden light. The gorge cut deep through the ground nearby, marking the border with the opposite Clan. Water thundered in a white cat's ears as she padded gently along the river's edge, her long fur dragging along the fur and her tail waving contently behind her. The Clan she's found herself in after she'd left her humans was her home now, and she loved it.
Snowball's sparkling green eyes passed over the ground in front of her, watching her step as her whiskers twitched at the scent of FrigidClan across the border. Their scent markings were strong, as the sunhigh patrol had obviously just passed, and LuminousClan's own scent was even stronger, making snowball cough her distaste at the stink. If it wasn't for her plans, the pretty she-cat would have chosen another time to come for a walk, but her arrangements were clear. Meet me at the border, just after sunhigh, alone. The green-eyed warrior knew the Warrior Code well - she'd been careful to memorize it when she'd first joined - but the tom had captured her heart and she couldn't help it.
A shape caught Snowball's sharp green gaze, crossing the border and standing skittishly on the other side. The tom had fawn fur, which had dark black stripes, making his lighter coat almost non-existent, a long, large-pawed build and flickering hazel eyes. When said hazel eyes - the green in them standing out sharply due to the cat's nervousness - landed on the small, muscular white shape of his secret lover, they lit up and he took a confident step forward.
"Snowball," he called gently, making sure she heard him and noticed him. After a short, loving hello, both cats sat beside each other, tails intertwined as they watched the river.
"Blackstripe..." she started, avoiding his gaze as her heart thundered in her chest.
"Yes?" he asked, licking her ear to encourage her to talk. "Come on, you can talk to me. We've already broke the rules one time, nothing you say can be any worse, can it?"
"No, Blackstripe, this is definitely breaking the rules," Snowball was on the verge of a breakdown. "You have no idea how much trouble we're going to get in for this. Blacstripe..." She gave her chest fur a self-concious lick. "I think I'm pregnant." The tom sat, dazed, for a moment, before his flashed a smile and leant against the white she-cat.
"That's great!" Blackstripe exclaimed, before lowering his voice and whispering to his mate. "How long? Have you told anyone? How many are there?"
"It isn't great," she groaned, nudging him too make him pay attention. "We'll both get in so much trouble! We'll be cast out and our kits won't have a home! Blackstripe. Blackstripe! Blackstripe, are you listening to me?"
"Just stop fretting, Snowball," he told her sternly. "I've raised kits before. You know about my sons and my daughter. It's so much fun! You'll love it, I promise. Even you know about my temper. My daughter, Stripepaw, is just like me, but she's doing fine. You'll be a great mother, and I promise you'll love raising them."
"That's the thing, Blackstripe." Tears began to form in her bright green eyes. "Only one of us can raise them. We can't switch them between Clans. And, if I'm honest, I don't think I could keep them here. I would break. I would tell the Clan. they would grow up with a mother or a father, not both. You have a mate, I couldn't handle it alone. I don't know what we can do."
"It'll be fine, I promise," he whispered gently in her ear, leaning more against her and comforting her. "If you want me too take the kits, I will. I promise. Sandtail won't mind, I'm sure. I'll say I found them. I'll come up with an excuse. I'll keep them safe. I'll keep them safe and I'll make sure they are looked after."
"Blackstripe, I don't want you too ruin your life, not because of my mistake."
"It wasn't your mistake. It wasn't a mistake. They are our kits, and I'll ruin my life for them. Do you agree with me? Snowball: do you agree with me?"
"I can't-"
"Bring me the kits, the day they are born, and I'll take them to FrigidClan. We can name them together. We can meet here, every two moons, and I'll tell you how they are. If you don't think you can look after them and not tell our secret, I'm not letting you get yourself into anymore trouble, and I'll look after them. I'm sure plently of rule-breaking mates do it, right?"
"Oh, thanks you Blackstripe!" she mewed, falling against her mate and wrapping her tail around him. "I love you, you know that?"
"I love you more," she whispered, licking her ear again and stroking her thick, snowy fur with his long, black-tipped tail. The sun began to sink towards the horizon, showing sunset was near and that the dusk patrol would soon be re-marking the borders. The moon would soon rise, the stars would come from their hiding places, and the sky would be lit with the dancing lights of the night.
"I'd better go," Blackstripe said suddenly, breaking the silence and standing up, after a long while. "I promised Stripepaw I'd train her tonight. I'll see you in a moon, okay?"
"Okay," Snowball answered quietly, watching her mate as he crossed the border and walked back into his own territory, the flick of his fawn and black tail disappearing among the wide-spread oaks of FrigidClan's water-logged, stream-filled home. Turning, the long, soft-furred white she-cat, with one last, longing green look over her shoulder, padded back into Luminousclan's forest, narrowly avoiding the dusk patrol that was now leaving the camp.
